Troubleshoot sign-in issues with modern authentication when use AD FS Microsoft 365 Microsoft Learn

This prevents repair corrupted OST in Outlook Windows clients that are running Office from logging in as required by the authentication process. I would have been devastated if I'd had to move away from Thunderbird (which I love) or from Hotmail (which I've been using since it was launched nearly 30 years ago). Additionally, accessing email through a web client will continue to work, even if an application is having issues.

But primarily I am guessing you are changing the server name. This does not enable any oauth list entry that may be available for that server. Then the entry will be in the list for you to select. I have no issues in Outlook 365 with being a global FixTechGuide Windows update Outlook fix admin and having modern authentication with multi-factor authentication. If you have an issue that's not listed in this article, go to the following Microsoft TechNet wiki page.

If you use AD FS in Windows Server 2012 R2

Upgrade to Microsoft Edge to take advantage of the latest features, security updates, and technical support. Windows 10 will reach EOS (end of support) on October 14, 2025. Create your account and connect with a world of communities.

iOS Mail

The currently configured authentication methods can remain unchanged. Fix Outlook Not Opening After Windows Update For example, if Windows Integrated Authentication is configured as the primary authentication method, it can remain configured this way. Login to server outlook.office365.com with username [Duck ID]@uoregon.edu failed.

This issue has been resolved by having users connect to the UO VPN when initially setting up their account with Mac Mail.I’m quite fortunate that this is just my O365 instance, so customers not being impacted.Consider trying this while connected to a wired or wireless network (instead of a cellular network) to increase speeds and avoid hitting data limitations. We recommend using Outlook on the web to check your email or consider configuring a supported email client. If the error you are encountering is not listed, please create a ticket on our Email and Calendar Help page for assistance. Then the entry will be in the list for you to select.Specifically, after successfully responding to the Duo prompt, the pop-up window will remain blank except for a spinning icon and never finish adding the account to the application. But primarily I am guessing you are changing the server name.Once I added the AlwaysUseMSOAuthForAutodiscover value, it popped up the modern auth prompt and worked perfectly.

Android Mail

This article also contains resources for IT administrators to address reports about Active Directory Federation Services (AD FS) issues that are specific to Office for Windows platforms. (a) I hadn't previously set up 2FA on my Microsoft account, and it seemed to require this. (c) Hotmail syncs with my iPhone, and this stopped working; however, I simply had to re-enter my usual Hotmail password on the phone to get it working again. Similar to Mac Mail, UO email accounts set up in iOS Mail application prior to the Modern Auth update will continue to work provided the device is running iOS 11 or newer. Outlook 2013 supports MA but requires a registry entry as already mentioned.

My concern is that MS will force modern authentication soon, and switch off basic authentication. I therefore have a workaround, but not a solution. Is there some kind of setting within O365 that’s forcing Outlook to use basic authentication ? Other apps are using modern authentication perfectly well, including Teams. I authorise the applications after installation with modern authentication, and OneDrive client uses it oo, so it looks like it’s only Outlook that’s forcing basic authentication. I have a couple of PCs that access the system on the same account from Win 10.

Please note that this can take a significant amount of time, depending on the size of your account and your other connected applications (Contacts, Calendar, etc). Consider trying this while connected to a wired or wireless network (instead of a cellular network) to increase speeds and avoid hitting data limitations. UO email accounts set up in Mac Mail prior to the Modern Auth update will continue to work, provided the device is running macOS 10.14 or newer. If issues are encountered, it is advised to first re-setup the account in Mac Mail. Removing and re-adding the account using the standard Sign In method will resolve this error.

Troubleshoot sign-in issues with Office modern authentication when you use AD FS

They suggested clearing credentials, which I have already tried. Outlook is working on my phone, and I can access everything via the office.com web site. Now I am constantly being asked to enter passwords for two of my Comcast addresses (my Gmail address works fine). Searched till my fingers bled; gave up and installed the free "Windows Outlook", but it was a mess that I can't take.

If memory serves me right, modern auth with 2fa, and being a GA and using the account for outlook are known for issues. So, it looks like the version of Outlook that I have won’t play nice with Modern Authentication. I have confirmed that on two different PCs that are accessing the same mailbox with the same version of Outlook, which is the latest version from Microsoft included within my Office 365 package.
