Bond has dinner with Vesper, who receives a call from Mathis stating that Le Chiffre has been apprehended by the CIA. Vesper leaves the dining room; seconds later, Bond realizes she's in danger. Bond races after them in his Aston Martin, but has to swerve violently when he sees Vesper lying bound in the road. Directed by Martin Campbell, the film re-establishes Bond’s origin story and strips the character down to his brutal, cold-blooded beginnings—before the gadgets and quips.
